Cinemaniac Reviews

OLD. NEW. GOOD. BAD. EVERYTHING.

Happy Anniversary, Blog!

It was one year ago today that I decided to start reviewing movies.  I started on BlogSpot, with a review of Cowboys and Aliens.  All my reviews from BlogSpot, up to when I moved to WordPress on October 7th, have been archived here on my blog.  I was not even fourteen years old when I founded this blog, so I feel like I’ve finally done something fully productive with my time.  I’m sure every blogger should feel just as excited as I am when his or her blog celebrates its first anniversary.  So I will be celebrating by going over some notable things that have happened to me over this past year as a blogger and as a critic, by month:

- ENTIRE PAST YEAR Saw and reviewed (20) films that won the Academy Award for Best Picture
- OCTOBER 2011 Experienced an R-rated movie in a theater for the first time
- OCTOBER 2011 Saw and reviewed the #1-ranked film on IMDb’s 250
- NOVEMBER 2011 Discovered my new favorite filmmaker
- JANUARY 2012 Bought (on iTunes) and watched the one film considered the worst ever made
- FEBRUARY 2012 Saw a Best Picture Oscar-winning film in the theater for the first time (believe me, I knew it would win before it did)
- MARCH 2012 Wrote an article for SBS about my favorite film
- APRIL 2012 Received and passed on two “7 x 7 Link” awards
- JUNE 2012 Received a “One Lovely Blog” award
- JUNE 2012 Began a collaborative film blog with a loyal follower and great friend, Sam Willis
- JULY 2012 Decided that if I ask someone what his or her favorite movie is, and it’s based on a book by Nicholas Sparks, they will never get a chance to speak with me again.
- JULY 2012 Reached 10,000 hits
- JULY 2012 Revisited a classic considered the greatest American film ever made
- JULY 2012 Familiarized myself with the concept of watching films back-to-back
- JULY 2012 Wrote this post

  1. Happy Anniversary

  2. I wish I had been half as productive as you when I was your age.

  3. You understand, analyze, appreciate, and explain your opinions of cinemas like a well-educated urbane adult.
    Happy Anniversary!

  4. Quite an impressive set of achievements for your first year, Bravo! Just curious, how many reviews have you written so far? You’re certainly one of the most active bloggers on my blogroll, I don’t know where you get the time but I’m not complaining :)

Just curious, do you have any goals for the coming year? I.e. views to reach, followers to gain, being able to make revenue, etc.

    • Thanks!

I believe last time I posted something, WordPress said it was my 307th post. About 14 or 15 of those have been something other than reviews, so let’s go with the higher number and say I’ve written about 293 films. ;)

As for goals to set for the coming year…how about 150 followers? Or 4,000 views? Not sure how I could make revenue from reviewing on WordPress, but if you could let me know, that would be great. Also, I’ll be away for the next few days. So I guess I’ll be on a brief…hiatus. :(

  5. Congratulations Alexander. You have achieved well young sir. Here’s to more years ahead! :-)

  6. Happy Anniversary Alexander! I’m very happy for you, but I’m sure you already knew that. Congratz anyways, and I hope you have many more anniversaries to come!! :D

  7. Happy blogiversary! Lots of neat milestones – It will be really cool if you keep this up so you can look back on milestones like this over time.
